Australia now has equality

The amendments to the Marriage Act to remove the decades old wording which discriminated against the LGBTI community has now passed its final hurdle in parliament.

Simply put Marriage Equality has now passed both houses of parliament and will form passed legislation!

It has been a long hard road to get to this point. And some of the delaying tactics of conservatives caused real harm to the community. But love prevailed…

And for even better news, all amendments to add extra ‘protections’ for religion were voted down.

It is a momen worthy of celebration.

A hard fought victory, but I really hope progress continues now. Unfortunately equality still doesn’t mean acceptance.

That acceptance of the LGBTI community is and will be elusive for a while yet, but today marks another milestone for LGBTI rights and demonstrates once and for all; we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it!
